NY: Provision linking tenure to student scores stopped
Legislators balk at tying teacher tenure to student tests
New York Times April 9, 2008
The New York legislature deleted language supported by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg that would have held teachers accountable for student performance by tying tenure decisions to student test data. In its place, language is being prepared that would bar the consideration of test scores in tenure decisions. The new provision is to be included in the budget bill and will be in force for two year if approved.
