Lacking credits, some students learn a shortcut

Credit recovery, a practice that allows students to gain the credits required for graduation without attending traditional classes, gained attention as one teacher is boycotting a graduation ceremony that includes students graduating because of credit recovery.  Critics say that granting credits for completing independent study packets, online courses or intensive week-long courses does not give the students the full benefits of a traditional course.  Supporters say that it can provide a way for students who do not function well within the traditional system to graduate.
