Bus Radios Draw Fire

Radio on bus fosters quiet, but not peace

New York Times  April 18, 2008

BusRadio, a service that provides "radios" for buses at no cost to school districts, has generated controversy in several districts where it is used.   In exchange for the radios, the districts download content each evening that includes advertisements and public service announcements.  The controvery is similar to that generated by Channel One, which provided televisions in classrooms in exchange for playing content that included advertising.  Several groups object to advertising to students, who are a captive audience in the school setting.
