VA: Policy causing immigrants to move schools

N. Va. hit with cost of school migration

Prince William County began enforcement of laws restricting services to illegal immigrants and requiring check of immigration status for suspected criminals.  As a result, hundreds of families have moved their students to schools in nearby counties.  Prince William County officials argue that the policy is serving its purpose of saving the county money and is pressuring surrounding counties to pass similar measures.  Critics argue that it is affecting both legal and illegal immigrants and is putting a burden on districts because students are moving mid-year after per pupil allocations have been made.
