Study shows Reading First ineffective
An intiative on reading is rated ineffective

A report released by the research arm of the Department of Education finds that Reading First has not improved reading comprehension in the early grades of elementary school. Reading first is an early childhood reading program advocated by the Bush Administartion
and included as part of the No Child Left Behind legislation. Congress cut the budget for the program by 60% last year and ordered the study of the program's effectiveness.
