CA: LA teachers plan walkout to protest budget cuts

Los Angeles Unified's attempt to halt teacher protest is rejected

Los Angeles Times  June 4, 2008

Los Angeles Unified School District's request to have the state Public Employee Relations Board file an injunction to prevent a teacher walkout was denied.  The district argued that the walkout would compromise student safety by leaving students unsupervised, especially in light of violence at certain LA schools over the past four weeks.  The teachers' protest, which is planned for Friday, will involve picketing outside schools for one hour at the beginning of the day to protest budget cuts.
