LA: Legislature approves school voucher plan
Louisiana Senate passes school plan
New York Times June 12, 2008
The Louisiana Senate passed a $10 million voucher measure that woudl allow up to 1,500 low- and middle-income students attend private schools using vouchers. The provision already received House approval and needs only a vote on language changes before going to the governor for signing. The bill is intended to help children leave a struggling public education system in New Orleans, although critics of the bill say that the post-Katrina schools in New Orleans are showing improvement and that money would be better spent on the public system.
