MD: Union approves bonus plan linked to performance

Teacher bonuses get unions' blessing

Washington Post June 25, 2008

The local union approved Prince George County's plan to test a pay program that includes incentives for performance.  The bonuses, that could total $10,000, are linked to several items:  $2,500 for a school meeting test score goals, $2,500 for improving test scores within a classroom, $1,500 for teaching hard-to-staff subjects, $1,500 for meeting standards in an evaluation of classroom skills and $2,000 for professional development activities.  Some teachers are upset because they are ineligible for the full bonus because they do not teach in grades or subjects that are tested or in hard-to-staff subjects.
