A citizens committee has been planning a ballot initiative for November that will ask voters to approve a $453.5 million, 20-year capital construction bond for Denver Public Schools. The bond would translate to $6 per year per $100,000 of assessed home values, or less than $18 per year for the median home, and would pay for maintenance, two new schools in northeast Denver, a renovation for North High School, and other urgent needs. A similar bond was passed in the smaller Boulder Valley School District in 2006 at $298 million. The school board will consider this proposition today and vote on its inclusion on the November ballot on September 2.
