States, schools will have to improve dropout rates

USA Today  October 28, 2008

New rules extending the No Child Left Behind law to high school will require schools to track dropout rates and raise the number of students that graduate, including minorities and students with disabilities. Starting with the 2012 school year, schools must meet targets for
minority groups and kids with disabilities, as well as for the overall
student population, to satisfy the progress requirements of No
Child Left Behind. New Jersey, a state already with one of the lowest dropout rates, has started its own program called the New Jersey High School Graduation Campaign, which will be run by the state attorney general's office.
