CO: Committees approve bills to support parent involvement

Two parent involvement bills pass out of committee

The House Education Committee passed a watered down version of a bill that helps parents get time off of work to be involved with their children's schools. Changes made to the original bill accomadated business concerns by reducing the amount of paid time off and specifying which types of business and workers would be affected by the new rules. The Senate Education Committee also passed a different type of bill that would promote parent involvement in school governance. The bill poses challenges for charter schools and small districts.
