US: Alternative teacher training programs pass the test

Scores found unaffected by teacher-training route

According to a study released Monday by Mathematica Policy Research Inc., students who have teachers certified through alternative-training
programs do no worse in mathematics or reading achievement than
students whose teachers have been certified by traditional teacher
education programs.  Critics of alternative licensure programs worry about them being less selective and not meeting the standards of traditional programs.
