Education News Colorado March 3, 3009
The Senate gave preliminary approval to a bill that would require elementary schools to provide at least two and a half hours of recess per week. To avoid impinging on local district control, an amendment was added that this bill is not intended to dictate classroom instruction. Lawmakers agreed that it is important to send a message to school districts that physical activity is important, especially because of increasing rates of childhood obesity.
