CO: Proposal to reduce testing

This year's assault on CSAP unveiled

A House bill introduced on Friday would cut all writing Colorado State Assessment Program (CSAP) tests for third through eighth grades and suspend all tests for ninth and tenth grades. The sponsors contend that this measure would reduce testing to the minimum required by federal No Child Left Behind requirements and reduce costs in a time of budget shortfalls. The Colorado Department of Education opposes the bill claiming that it would take the state out of federal compliance and that the current state accountability system gives the Colorado an advantage in applying for federal stimulus funds.
