Unequal Punishment for LGBT Teens
As discussed in a Washington Post article, a new study reported in the peer-reviewed journal Pediatrics finds that LGBT youth -- particularly lesbian and bisexual girls -- have been more likely to be sanctioned by schools, police, and courts than their straight peers. This new finding adds further urgency to addressing school environment and safety issues, as detained in the NEPC legislative-policy brief released in late September, called "Safe at School."
