DC: District to use interventions in home to raise achievement
New program to take early action to help those failing
Washington Post March 19, 2008
The Washington, D.C. school district will introduct a pilot program that will provide early intervention for students exhibiting academic and social problems. The program brings together 17 social service agencies that can be accessed to provide services such as in-home substance abuse counseling, help with public-aid issues and domestic violence. The program is based on a similar initiative in Albany, New York, that has shown success in lowering behavior problems and raising achievement.
