CA: Court ruling tightens home-schooling guidelines

Home schooling takes a hit in California

USA Today March 9, 2008

A California lower court ruled upheld state education regulations that required home-schooled students to be enrolled in a public or private school and to receive instruction from a credentialed teacher. The judge called the arrangement in which students were enrolled at a private school but instructed at home a "ruse" that allowed students to be instructed by a non-credentialed teacher. The ruling is likely to be challenged, and Governor Schwarzenegger said that he will support legislation to change the regulations if the ruling is upheld by the California Supreme Court.
