CA: Districts brace for major cutbacks

State's school districts prepare for cuts, layoffs

Anticipating a possible $4.8 billion shortfall in state funding for education, many districts are notifying employees of layoffs, increasing class sizes and considering school closures as austerity measures to offset funding cuts.   Many districts' financial reports indicate that they will operate in a deficit over the next two years.
