Washington, D.C. schools are focusing on principal recruitment and training as a major part of reform efforts.  Seeing the instructional leadership of principals as key to successful schools, the district has received grants for initiatives to develop the applicant pool and reduce turnover. The effort has doubled the applicant pool for principal positions in the district.
