DPS, teachers begin talks

Denver Public School District and the Denver Classroom Teachers Association begin negotiations today for the upcoming school year, with a deadline of May 1 for agreement. While increased substitute pay and acceptable timelines for job postings have already been agreed upon, remaining issues include a high level of dissatisfaction with planning time, approaches to student discipline, and salary. Union president, Kim Ursetta, noted that teacher salary should be competitive with other Denver metro area districts, an area in which DPS currently lags behind.
