Federal math advisory council makes curriculum recommendations

Panel Proposes Streamlining Math

The National Mathematics Advisory Panel, appointed by President Bush two years ago, released its recommendations. The report sets grade-level guidelines for math achievement. It endorsed using a mixture of teacher-directed and child-centered instructional methods and encourages further investment in math instruction research.
