CA: English-learning students show improvement

California students log improvement in English fluency

Results from the California English Language Development Test show that almost 36% of the state's English-language learners had advanced or early advanced skills.  Also, more students were eligible for reclassification as fluent, which provides access to higher-level and college-prep courses. This is an improvement over past years, but critics point out the persistence of an achievement gap across academic subjects.
