DC: Report reveals high racial concentration in schools

Study highlights changes in D.C. school enrollment

Washington Post  April 25, 2008

A study by the Brookings Institution showed that more than 200 of Washington, D.C.'s 234 schools have populations that are greater than 90% African-American or Hispanic and seven schools have a population that is majority white.  White children comprise 13% of the school age students in the District, but they make up only 5% of the public school population.  The District has the second highest percentage of students in charter schools in the country behind New Orleans, but the study noted that reliable information concerning the District's 72 charter schools was difficult to obtain.
