MD: Alternative to Test for Graduation Being Tested

Diploma Plan Stirs Concerns in Md.

Washington Post  April 12, 2008

The Bridge Plan, which allows students to complete projects instead of meeting minimum test scores for graduation, is facing hurdles in its first year of implementation.  Districts argue that the alternative plan will place financial pressures on districts already undergoing budget cuts.  Also, only one sample project has been released leaving many questions unanswered concerning how difficult implementation will be and adding questions about costs.  The Class of 2009 is the first graduating class to be required to receive minimum scores on state tests to graduate.
