The Denver Public School district and its teachers have not reached an agreement on contract changes for next year. The district is proposing increases in incentives and starting pay. Union representatives claim that the deal hurts veteran teachers, while district representatives point to the need to recruit and retain more teachers, as 50% leave in the first 5 years and 80% leave within 10 years. Teachers asked the Colorado Department of Labor to step in, but the state refused to get involved at this stage.
