Teachers at some Denver schools called in sick en masse, parked outside the school parking lot, or wore black to show their unity in opposing the district's salary offers for the coming school year. The district, which uses a merit compensation system, has proposed increases in starting salaries and bonuses for performance, but many counter that these offers come at an expense for veteran teachers.
