Preparation of elementary teachers to teach math criticized

A report issued by the National Council on Teacher Quality criticized the math preparation that elementary teachers receive in the nation's schools of education. The report, which examined about 5% of the institutions offering elementary teacher certification, said that too little time is spent preparing teachers to teach math concepts and that the standards for admission to teacher education programs are too low.
