The battle over how to teach evolution has entered a new chapter in Texas as the state education board considered whether curriculum guidelines for science should require that the "strengths and weaknesses" of evolution be taught. Opponents of the language are concerned that it opens the door to teaching about creationism and intelligent design. Proponents argue that classroom should be open to considering the merits of any idea. Many eyes are on the Texas board as the decision about what is taught in Texas has great influence over textbook publishers and influences what curriculum is available across the country.
