Judge dismisses home-schooling credentials case

A family court judge terminated his court's jurisidiction over a controversial home-schooling case in California that threatened the legality of the schooling arrangement of thousands of children.  The case involved a family whose children were enrolled at Sunland Christian School but received their education at home from their mother, who is not credentialed as a teacher.  A California Court of Appeals ruled in February that the family violated state laws because the mother was uncredentialed and Sunland's monitoring of the students was not sufficient to constitute enrollment in a private school.  The full appellate panel was expected to hear the case, but the family's lawyers will file a motion to have the case declared moot due to the termination of jurisdiction by the family court.
