NY: Plans announced to administer standardized tests to grades K-2

A plan to test teh city's youngest pupils

The New York City school district announced plans to pilot standardized testing of children from Kindergarten through second grade.  District officials say that it will better allow them to understand the efficacy of literacy programs for students in their early years and will provide credit to teachers and schools for progress made in those grades.  Opponents say that testing will label students at too young of an age and that children do not need the pressure of testing.
