VA: State considers connecting accreditation to graduation rates
Virginia weighs wider index to certify schools
Washington Post August 7, 2008
Virginia is considering changing its accreditation process for schools so that it focuses on graduation rates. Schools would receive a certain number of points for students who receive diplomas, who earn a GED and who receive a certificate of completion. The system would also require implementation of a tracking system that would assign each student a number that would allow them to be tracked if they moved schools within the state. The current accreditation system is based on a school's scores on the state "Standards of Learning" exams.
