MD: Link between math achievement and 'number sense'
How one's 'number sense' helps with mathematics
Washington Post September 8, 2008
Researchers at the Johns Hopkins University have established an association between a student's intuitive sense of numbers and his/her performance in math class. The study was done looking at 64 14-year-olds and their ability to quickly estimate how many objects are in a group. The teenagers who did well on the test measuring their 'number sense' were more likely to have better grades in math classes.
