CO: Denver teacher residency program another avenue for licensure

DPS adds third fast-track route to classroom

The Denver Public Schools announced that it will offer a third way for people to become licensed to teach, in an effort to recruit mid-career changers and college graduates who lack proper credentials to teach. The program is modeled after a medical residency and participants will spend 10 months in a classroom with a mentor teacher and commit to teaching for 5 years in the district. District officials expect approximately 800 applicants for 40-50 fellow positions.
