CO: Legislature debates education funding proposals

Tuition tax credit goes nowhere

Education News Colorado

The House Education Committee postponed indefinately a bill that would have provided tax-credits for private school tuition because of concerns about how the loss of funds would affect rural districts, the state education budget and provide support to private institutions not accountable to CSAP testing. The committee also began the process of deciding how funds from Amendment 50, which allowed for increases in casino gambling, would be split between community colleges and historic preservation interests.  A bill to formalize the Teacher of the Year program and allow for private funding was approved.
