DC: Governors call for national standards
Education Week March 4, 2009
The National Governors Association, along with the Council of the Great City Schools, the National Association of
Secondary School Principals, and the American Federation of Teachers, are endorsing the creation and implementation of national standards to compare student performance on international tests. Advocates say we need to set a common definition of what students should know and be able to do. Critics are weary that we will just end up doing on a national level what we’re doing too much of on the state and local levels.
